Life is good right now!  Since we have spent the week organizing our life in London, we thought that we’d reward ourselves by exploring the city that will now be our home. We selected a number of activities:

  • The Tower of London
  • The Tower Bridge
  • Vietnamese food in London
  • Sight seeing and a show in Piccadilly Circus

The Tower of London

Nearest Tube: Tower Gateway (DLR) or Tower Hill

The Tower of London is a historic castle located right next to the Thames River and has been made famous for it’s use as a prison since the 1100s. I love the historical significance of this castle, especially since I have read many books about the Tudor dynasty and many stories about King Henry VIII.

King Henry VIII used this castle to imprison two of his six wives while they awaited execution. Anne Boleyn was one of his wives. She was made famous for seducing the King while he was still married to Catherine of Aragon, which changed the course of England’s history forever.

The Tower of London

It was a freezing day in London but that was not the reason for feeling goose bumps as I walked past the Tower of London. It was such a surreal feeling as it has been a place that I have wanted to visit for such a long time.

The Tower Bridge

Nearest Tube: Tower Gateway (DLR) or Tower Hill

The Tower Bridge is located right next to the Tower of London and is a bridge that is built across the Thames River. The Tower Bridge itself is quite a site and it’s hard to believe that such a beautiful piece of architecture actually has the practical purpose of carrying cars and buses from one side of the river to another.

We had our walking shoes and wandered through the bridge, inspecting every little nook and cranny.

The views from the Tower Bridge are also spectacular and it is definitely worth standing back and admiring the city of London in all it’s glory.

Let us take a walk

We decided to take a walk along the area that surrounds the bridge. We wandered through the alleyways that boasted remnants of the past, yet had a modern twist.

Then, having decided that we felt like lunch, we jumped into a red, double decker bus that was heading for Shoreditch.

The bus changed route and dropped us off close to Shoreditch so we decided to try one of our friend’s favorite restaurants. The restaurant served delicious Vietnamese cuisine that kept us full for hours.

We then headed to a cafe in Shoreditch to try the freshly brewed coffee. I didn’t dare try as I have been finding it hard to locate a good coffee place in London, so please do let me know if you have suggestions!

We quickly walked through China Town to get a feel of the place before making our way to our next destination.

Piccadilly Circus

At the last minute, the four of us decided that it was still too early to go home, so we purchased some last minute theater tickets to watch Ghost, the musical.  In London, you can purchase last minute tickets for a discounted price from many box offices located within Piccadilly Circus. It was our first show in London, so Rick and I were very excited.

With tickets in hand, we decided to explore Piccadilly Circus and take some more happy snaps. If you have ever been to Piccadilly Circus, you will feel that the vibe is like no other. There are energetic street performers dancing in the streets and when you spin around you can see beautiful buildings set in the background of bright lights.

We ended the night by watching Ghost, the musical. It was absolutely breathtaking. The music, the lighting, the sound, the singing and the overall cast made this show memorable . I highly recommend watching it.

What a great end to a great day!
