The Santorini (Greece) sunset is so beautiful that even locals will stop what they are doing to enjoy the moment.

The colours are magnificent. The shades of orange and red fill the sky and as the sun slowly disappears behind the horizon, it takes away the warmth of its rays. You start to feel a slight chill. Then as the day alternates into night, the colour of the sky transforms into multiple shades of blue that blend into the white walls of Santorini’s cliff side buildings.

After visiting Santorini for 5 days and witnessing 5 glorious sunsets, I thought I would share my 3 favourite sunsets for 3 separate parts of the island.

Number 1 Best Sunset in Santorini (The Aegean Sea)

The sunset is best viewed from a ship at sea. What can be more romantic than the sails being raised as the ship glides slowly towards the sunset. We were literally sailing off into the sunset.

Number 2 Best Sunset in Santorini (Oia)

Number 2 on the list is in Oia. Oia is known to have the best sunsets in Santorini because it is located at the most West part of the island. There are many free vantage points in Oia but they are crowded with tourists and did not give the romantic vibe that we were after. Sunset is also around our dinner time so we booked a restaurant with uninterrupted views of the horizon. Ochre has a spacious, outdoor dining area and is far enough from the rest of the tourists to ensure that they do not get in the way of your photos.

Number 3 Best Sunset in Santorini (Fira)

The Sunset from Fira at Naoussa Restaurant. The Sun just about to disappear into the horizon

Number 3 on the list is from a cliffside restaurant in Fira called Naoussa Restaurant. We managed to book a window seat and witnessed a beautiful sunset over Fira and Oia.

Out of the 3 sunsets, which one do you like the most?
